French, Required?

Hey all,

I was just wondering, I am a prospective transfer from the University of Massachusetts and I would like to know if you absolutely have to speak French to deal with Montreal's city life?

I have been to Montreal many times. I do not speak any French. I have had only language experience with Spanish (currently almost done with the major and a sophomore).

So, my question is remains:

1) Am I going to even be looked at because I don't speak French?
2) If admitted, will I be able to handle a French world just getting by on their second language?
3) How easy is it to pick up French?

Stats (If this also helps for transfer admission, if anyone knows):
Listed in matter of importance in review

Current GPA (Sophomore status, university; 44 credits): 3.80 GPA
ECs: Student Government, Hillel, Pride Alliance, Social Activities Council --- Leader positions in all.
HS GPA: 3.25 GPA
SATs: 1220

Thanks,
AS.

yeh u will considered

and u dont need french here....i havent used my french since i got here...its completely useless...everyone speaks english around mcgill...

When I visited I had no problems at all....I have taken 2-3 years of french (so I am no expert here) and I didn't really need to use any at all. It was cool being able to read some of the signs and such though around the city!

McGill affairs are all in english of course.

You definitely don't need French here. I don't know any french, although I have been picking up some vocab while I have been here.

I would say that you have a fairly good chance of being admitted over all. Good luck.
