"Freshman 15" is just a myth, new study shows

Any thoughts?

Weight gain in college? The freshman 15 is just a myth, U.S. study reveals

I have lost 15 pounds, so that is something.

Tl;dr but I already saw some news programs about how its only about 3 pounds instead of 15…

I’m also losing weight. Probably has something to do with the disgusting cafeteria food…

There is a rumor at my university that they place laxatives in it lol. A friend of mine who commutes went in once and got food poisoning (or rather just a bad stomach ache and such)

O.O That’s horrible. I’m actually really scared now. I felt sick the first few days but nothing that bad.

the food in the cafeteria at my school is so bad that i would think freshmen would probably lose 15 lbs rather than gain it.

I lost an unhealthy amount of weight the first half of the first semester my freshman year.

This study was done through OSU though… so I wouldn’t be too confident in it :D

I lost ten pounds between the time I moved into my dorm and by the time fall break rolled around. I just stopped eating fried foods, ate total raisin bran with an apple and a banana every morning, skipped lunch, ate vegetarian dinners, and bam I lose ten pounds. I only exercised once a week too.

When I went back home, however, I went back to my old eating habits which, arguably, probably wasn’t the best idea. But considering I deprive myself whenever I’m in college…yeah.

I hope I don’t lose weight. I’ve been hungry for most of the day on most days. It’s been like freaking Ramadan this semester. Not so good when I’m trying to get in shape at the same time

I gained some weight my freshman year, but I think a lot of it was alcohol. That and I couldn’t always get healthy stuff since the dining halls had weird hours.

Good thing I’m losing it all this year, due to me having to cook for myself as well as other factors.

The primary theory around the “freshmen 15” is that students tend to keep snacks in their rooms and don’t eat proper meals, either because their schedules are crazy, or because there’s no one enforcing mealtimes, etc. But I don’t believe that it’s true that a majority of students gain anywhere near that much weight. At least not at any of the 3 schools I went to. And while snacking in the dorm might be popular, it’s actually easier to control your weight if you eat multiple small meals a day, rather than 3 larger ones. Just keep some or most of the snacks healthy, and there will not be a problem.
