Freshman Assembly on Cosmopolitanism

Have any of you read the essay for our first lecture? Is the Freshman Assembly a big thing at Pton?

No...what essay are you referring to? I am completely clueless

Yeah I read it. Zante it came with the Orientation schedule - it was a very bright orange color - kind of unmistakeable really :p

Oh that hahha digs around under bed
I think I saw it but I didn't read it. >.<

Yeah. :D I think there is a lecture based on the essay that we have to attend on Sunday 11th. I was wondering if the Freshman Assembly is a huge ceremony, or just a small event...

It's like a lecture, except for the entire freshman class. Don't get there late because they can't fit everyone in Richardson (especially since the increase in class size) and you might have to watch the simulcast somewhere.

poop i'm not getting any of this mail. zante, did you find it? I think this is the link from online: http://www.princeton.edu/tigers09/orientation/assembly/FA-reading-2005.doc

yeah, got it in the mail, but read it online

I don't really intend on reading it yet...

What are you saving it for? It starts out quite interesting, but kind of droops.

Yeah, I think I'll read mine on the plane there, hah. At least then it'll be fresh on my mind.

Umm...I might never read it? heh

you'll all enjoy professor appiah. he's great.

zant - that's brave. What if he looks into the audience and picks on you to share your views about x? :p

Glad to hear he's a great professor :) Is the lecture going to be him speaking for an hour, then we break up into groups to discuss it with another professor? Is it a big deal or just something for fun?

Last year, we split up into RA groups and had a discussion. And it's as big a deal as you (and your RA) makes it, so there is absolutely nothing to stress about.

I don't think he'll pick me out and ask, but if he does I'll just smile and say I agree with him. haha

No, I'll read it a few days before orientation if I remember...I want it to be fresh in my mind and all :p

I know a student who had Appiah at Harvard -- where Princeton stole him from ;) -- and this student, who is ordinarily a rather buttondown and maybe even slightly cynical person, had tears in his eyes, talking about what an amazing human being he was.
