Is it true that all freshmen have to read a mandatory book before classes start in the fall??? What is that?! Will they be testing us on it or what?

Don't worry; there's really no reason to read the book.

You're complaining about reading a book?

How, my friend, did you finish high school?

It's called summer reading.. lol

whats the book?

There was an article posted somewhere on the U of W website about a new idea to require all freshman to read, "Mountains Beyond Mountains" by Tracy Kidder. Perhaps you'll find out more about this during your Orientation Session.

At my other daughter's school, when she was a freshman, all frosh had to read one of three books. You didn't get a choice, it was the one assigned for the dorm. Then one of the nights during orientation (which at this school is the week before school starts) the author came to the dorm and discussed his/her book. My daughter thought it was pretty cool.

Don't think of it as summer reading. Think of it as a relatively meaningless administrative decision. You'll never have to take a test on the book; for that matter, I don't know of any course that uses the book in any capacity.
