Does anyone know if a schedule for Freshman Day (April 19th) is available anywhere? I would really like to know about what’s going to happen in advance!

I think it’s pretty much the same from year to year. Here’s the one we went to.

It began with speeches in Bender (coffee and pastries and juice available), then people were split off into groups (maybe by school? maybe by alphabet?) and there were orientations to the individual schools, to the honors program, stuff like that.

There were also breakout sessions for the parents separate from the kids.

After lunch (which was a box lunch in Bender), there was an orientation in my daughter’s school (SIS) that featured general information about the program and kind of a mock class taught by one of the professors.

We thought it was terrific. Freshman Day sold my daughter on AU. We paid the deposit and bought a sweatshirt before we left.

Here’s my report from the experience.

I would second DeskPotato’s enthusiastic recommendation of Freshman Day. Sealed the deal for our family, particularly my husband who wasn’t convinced that AU was worth XX dollars more than the state school my D was also considering. As a parent, we particularly enjoyed the parent forum where we heard a variety of AU parents share their perceptions of their family’s journey at American. I also recommend that both parents and students attend the Summer Orientation, if possible. I found it to be hugely helpful.
