Freshman dining plan and Greek Village Questions

On D’s most recent visit to USC, she toured Greek Village because she plans to rush this Fall as an incoming Freshman. She will be residing in the Honors Dorm, however If she winds up enrolled in one of the chapters that have a residence facility in Greek Village, D was told during tour that members (including new freshman members who do not reside in village) are typically encouraged to dine in (and pay) for meals at the sorority house.

For incoming Freshman however, upon enrollment to USC they need to select a university dining plan. If rushing, they wouldn’t know in advance what, if any chapter they will belong to or if that specific chapter assigned has a residence in the Greek Village with its own dining privileges.

How then do incoming Freshman who are planning to rush determine best dining plan options? Has anyone paid for full dining plan then later learn as early as first few weeks into semester that student would rather have meals at chapter house over at Greek Village?

Looking to see if there are any parent tips out there to avoid wasting money - if it can be avoided.

Thanks in advance.

My D is in the same situation, also planning to live in the Honors dorm and go through rush. I think I read somewhere that they do not need to sign up for the Greek meal plan until second semester

Thanks - makes more sense!

FYI, all meal plans can be changed each semester for all students and I think they can increase plan at any point. D was in honors dorm and started with 16+ but dropped down after first semester since she just didn’t use it. Even with food in the building she likes having own breakfast stuff in room.

They do not need to eat in their houses until second semester. Will stay on university meal plan first semester

You’ll pay per semester for meal plans, so there’s nothing to worry about. Almost every sorority (save for the newest one, Pi Phi) has a house in the Greek village. If your daughter rushes and accepts a bid, she will start to eat in the sorority house in the spring. In this case, you’d just purchase a Greek meal plan in the spring instead of a campus one.

Food in the Greek Village, and especially in the sororities, is phenomenal. Nothing to worry about!
