Freshman dorming

Does anyone know which dorm is the best for freshmen? Are you allowed to request a roomate?

Queen’s Court! Largest rooms for freshmen and best lounge/close-knit community!

" I live in Queen’s Court Residential College, a specialized freshman dorm that you have to write an essay to get into. It is an extremely close-knit community and we participate in many programs and activities together. I have personally made numerous friends in the building and believe that it is one of the best freshman dorms on-campus, since its rooms are the largest and the community is just amazing. Plus, it has a fantastic common lounge suitable for studying and socializing (kind of Harry Potter-like)."

what is the subject of the essay?

Queens Court is a great dorm - my S lived there freshman year and had a tremendous experience. He still has a lot of friends from Queens Court. But just so you know, it is a wellness dorm – the letter you write has to say that you don’t drink/smoke etc. Not everyone follows the rules, but in my opinion you should want that type of environment if you go to that dorm. Queens Court does have a lot of activities and there is a great community feel. But you do have to go to student presentations twice a week (I think) at night so that is a commitment not everyone wants. In terms of the other dorms, Alumni South and Loshert are pretty much twin buildings and are typical freshman dorms. Martyrs is also a typical freshman dorm but I believe that the rooms are a bit smaller and the building is older. Fordham’s description of the dorms is below:
