I was just assigned to live in Harwood and I was wondering if anyone could provide details about this dorm because everything I’m finding on here is from like 2005 and I think it’s been renovated since then, so I don’t know if those comments are relevant anymore. Also someone said it doesn’t have AC, is that true? Thank you!
Since a younger grad isn’t answering… One of my kids spent freshman year in Harwood and absolutely loved it (in case you were worried). Nice lounge, full kitchens for students to use, beautiful courtyard, and a lot of quirky definitely non-cookie-cutter rooms: including a few suites, patios, courtyards, connecting rooms, a couple real bathtubs (my kid’s room had one), etc. If you haven’t seen it, here’s a full description of each of the rooms: https://www.pomona.edu/administration/housing-residence-life/room-draw/room-details/harwood-court-room-details). But alas, no AC. Surprisingly, even though it can be toasty outside in Sept/Oct, my kid said the inside stays pretty nice (thick walls), and the nighttime temps drop into the 50s and 60s. I seem to remember my kid did just fine with a cheap little desk fan purchased at the ReCoop sale - which, coincidentally, is generally held right behind Harwood on move-in day!
Class of 2019 here. Harwood is GREAT and arguably the best freshman dorm. It doesn’t have AC but it does have beautiful construction, a great lounge, plentiful singles and typically the tightest-knit sponsor groups. I loved it living there freshman year. The ceiling fans help during the warmer months (really, only August and September are big issues) and it’s very temperate the rest of the year. You’ll be great, have a good orientation.
