Would you say all the dorms in the south campus are all about the same....or is one preferable over another? Thanks.

Stanford is the largest and my d thinks it can be a little crazy at times. McGuire is all male, Caughling is all female. Katherine and St. Monica and Good Counsel are all similar and are usually subject to tripling. My D said she thinks Good Counsel is all sophmores next year because of the housing shortage. Some freshman are put on the main campus where there is room available.
newdawn--What are you looking for in a dorm? Single Sex/Main campus etc.?

im going to be a freshman, i visited and saw all the campus buildings.. aall of them on south are nice, typical big dorm full of frosh fun dorms... but i also stayed with a friend who was on main campus and it was a tonn of fun, really personal and close knit friends because the dorm is small.. but i had a great time..so i see it as a win-win situation

st. monica and katherine are used (mostly) for learning communities, i think. personally, i like south better. more of the freshman feel to it. plus donahue dining hall seemed to have much better food than main campus.

So my understanding is that my D does not have the opportunity to select her dorm preference, right? She gets whatever is assigned to her in August?

Also, I know we can rent a small refrigerator and microwave from Villanova and that we can also buy our own. I'm assuming my D waits to find out who her roommate is and discuss with her how to handle this so that they don't end up with two sets?

Finally, if I remember correctly, the residents have the ability to raise their bed so they can utilize the space underneath. How high can she raise it?

Thanks!

You are correct. Your D will not be able to select her dorm. She will find out in August who her roommate (or roommates if she is in a triple) will be and can decide on who will bring or rent the "micro-fridge". The beds can be lofted with special lifts that I think the university provides. I have also seen the lifts at the various bedding stores. Beds in the triples cannot be lifted since there is a set of bunks beds and a high loft with a desk and dresser underneath.

the system res. life uses to decide who gets doubled and who gets tripled is by when you give your deposit, the earlier you send your deposit the less likely you are to be tripled. They do refund you for every semester you are tripled so that might be a perk. I was tripled this year and while space is somewhat limited, its livable.

okay...sounds good!! Thank you, momsworried & adg0610!!
