Freshman Grades

What do you think? I finished my freshman year at a really good prep school (rated #13 in the country I believe).

Literature and Composition: B+
Biology: A
Honors Algebra II “A”: A-
Computer Science 1: A-
Spanish Level 4: A
Topics in World History I: A-

The English is due to the fact that I had, arguably, the toughest teacher in the department. I didn’t due that well on the Final so that brought my final grade down. The only honors or accelerated courses offered in 9th grade is Math. My Spanish level is the highest you can take as a freshman. What do you think? The courses will only get harder and harder as I go on in high school.

Your freshman year grades matter less than your later grades. At a prep school like the one you’re attending, you’ll likely have a sense of how many people get accepted to a school like Brown each year. When you get closer, that’ll be a reasonable metric to determine a rough estimate of your chances. We have no idea.

your freshman year grades are totally acceptable. keep working hard, pursue your passions, do something interesting, and do well on the SAT/ACT, etc. the whole package will determine your chances of getting “in the door.” that’s all you can do, and the rest is really left to pure chance.
