Freshman Honors Seminars and the Collegiate Seminars?

My S just got a letter from the Dean of Academic Affairs for CAS encouraging him to enroll in a Freshman Honors Seminar and the Collegiate Seminars. Does anyone have experience with these programs?

Is this new this year?

Freshman Honors Seminars are not new. I don’t know about the Collegiate Seminars - those must’ve been introduced after my time. If your son’s eligible to take a FHS, I highly recommend it. I took Classical Mythology with Dean Santirocco, and it was a great freshman experience - tiny class size with dedicated and fantastic professor. More than 5 years later, I still think about the things I learned or discussed in that class.

Do you sign up for the seminars during freshman orientation?

Yes, you can sign up when you register for the rest of your classes. The person who registers you will have to call to get an approval code, however, but they will do it for you. They fill up fast though - so have a lot of choices available.
