Hey all. D will be attending Syracuse in fall as a freshman (hopefully they will be on campus!). Does anyone have any idea how housing works - is there a lottery, are you just assigned a dorm, can you state preferences? Also, recommendations on which are the best freshman dorms on campus? Thanks!
Freshman can’t pick their dorm but they answer some questions on myslice to indicate what type of room they would like. From what I read online, Flint and Day are the best dorms for freshmen and Boland, Brewster and Brockway are the worst.
Thanks @“IMPATIENT MOM” Since they just released the freshman housing request form, does anyone know if you can request a preference for dorm besides room type? How do you request a roommate if you know someone you’d like to room with? Do you get assigned to the “better” dorms based on how early you committed, or when you submitted your housing form, or is it completely random?
To the best of my knowledge, Freshman housing is completely random, other than a) applying to be in a learning community, which are in specific dorms, or b) requesting a roommate through the application (you both have to request one another).

In truth, all of the Freshman dorms are good. Those with poorer locations have other benefits. One that is frequently considered the worst location, BBB, actually has one of the strongest communities within the dorm.
