Freshman Housing, required to live in a dorm??

Is it required for freshman to live in a dorm? Or can I reject my housing contract and live at one of my friends' places?

On the website FAQ it says:
2. What can I do if I do not want my housing assignment?
If you do not accept your housing contract by the deadline stated on the contract, the offer will be rescinded and given to the next student on the waiting list. You will need to find alternate housing; you may want to contact Cal Rentals at (510) 642-3644.

Rescinded means the housing offer right, not my admission???

i think so… hmm i dunno

I really doubt they’d rescind you for not dorming at Cal. I think its even better if you don’t want to dorm so they can accommodate those who NEED housing in order for them to attend Cal.

My daughter’s roommate’s boyfriend lived off campus freshman year.

You can reject the housing offer. It’s not required to live in the dorms.

The FAQ refers to the Housing list. When you get your offer, you reject it if you no longer are interested in living on campus. They then expect you to find your own accommodations.

if possible, live off campus and get a apartment all to yourself. Dorms are doghouses. You will get roomed with complete strangers. No matter how much you and your roommate work to accommodate each one another, there will be times when you wish you had the room all to yourself.

I was the study type. My roommate was the party type. We were pretty much fighting over something every week.

it depends. girls usually are cool with their roommates lol.

^
Agreed!!! Hahaha.

Yeah, just reject the offer. I know people who don’t have any place BUT the dorms to live in!

Many people have trouble with the roommates but still love living in the dorms.

hmm kinda .

It’s not required for any freshman to live in the dorms.

ok thanks. helps a lot
