i'm an FPF student and i was offered campus housing this past friday. the problem is, when i asked about my lottery number for dorms the rep told me that i should look for alternative housing because my number did not look too promising. so i already made arrangements at westminster north, but now i'm offered housing way late and i want to take it, but i need to find a replacement to take my spot at westminster. if you or anyone you know is interested, please contact me. it's a really nice double (nicer than cal dorms) complete with minifridge, microwave, wireless internet, and all the furniture cal dorms provide and more. price is $12,485. the reason i really want campus housing is because i'm a freshman and i think living in campus dorms will be more convinient and more social.

please also respond if you have any ideas as to what else i can do/where else i can advertise, etc.

thanks!

post an ad on the Bay Area craigslist...

If you have a "contract" with them, you might look into how fair/enforceable it is. Berkeley city has strong renter's rights, so I wouldn't let yourself be bullied into something, especially since I assume you haven't moved in yet.

even though Berkeley does have strong renter's rights it's not like a renter can just walk away from a binding contract without some sort of notice or penalty.

For regular apartments you have to let the landlord know ASAP if you're defaulting on the lease and not moving in. You also forfeit the security deposit you paid (usually 2-3x the monthly rent).

You should contact Westminster house immediately. If you're lucky there might be enough ppl on the waiting list so that they won't bother charging you anything except the application fee.

Anyway, here is a link that might be helpful:

I wouldn't take legal advice from postings on CC.

You should've signed some written agreement with Westminster House. Everything that's binding will also be spelled out there.

Wait were you offered a double or triple room by the campus housing?

You can also post a thing here:

btw what type of dorm contract did you get?

hey, so did your crisis get solved? i'm in the same situation as you (offered a triple in unit 3), and i don't know what to do! i might even end up just accepting the cal housing offer, even if i can't get a refund or find a replacement at the private dorm i'm signed up at.
