Freshman Housing

Any advice on where to live freshman year? I want to be in a very social environment with many other freshmen.

They assign you to freshmen dorms, either SueB or one of the Quad dorms. You will live with freshmen. SueB is all freshmen, 4 hallways to a floor, 2 male/2 female.

Cool thanks!

Sue B seems more social, quad dorms maybe a little more quiet (emphasis on little). D had a roommate in a triple who thought the quad dorm was not exciting enough for her, so she moved to Sue B between semesters.

Awesome, thank you!

My guy lived on the Quad freshman year (assigned there) and in Sue B this year (officially working with freshmen). I asked him which he liked better and he told me “probably Quad since the rooms are larger and it’s closer to classes.” Either are good.

He’s back on Quad next year as an RA.

The quad is plenty social. What my son says is what everyone else says - Sue B is closer to the cafeteria - which I think is the one the kids believe is worse than the other. Quad is closer to the classes. It was horribly awfully cold this winter - I think closer to the classes and tunnels would win for me. I don’t think you really get a choice anyway unless you are ED.

The differences are minor. All freshman rooms are large, sometimes absurdly so. The distance outside if you don’t want to be outside is measured in yards, as in SueB is maybe 100 yards or so from the library entrance. You do go outside to reach the science buildings and, believe it or not, you won’t die on the walkways cleared for you.

Is it true that those accepted ED get first choice of dorms, or is that urban legend? Thanks in advance

Yes, ED gets first choice.

Thanks eyemamom

Thanks for the replies everyone! Very helpful!
