Freshman Housing

Hey everyone,

I will be attending the University of Michigan as a freshman next year. I plan to major in cellular & molecular biology or some other biology related major as an LSA student. I'm not really into the entire partying scene so I don't want a dorm thats into partying that much. I would prefer a dorm thats close to all the majority of my classes, (pretty sure I'll be studying mostly on central campus) with decent food. Which dorms would be best for me then?

Unless you are applying to a residential program, you don’t really have the option to choose which dorm to go. You can only choose preference for room type and rate group.

And you can say whether the “north neighborhood” is your first or second preference. If you want to be on central campus near most LSA classes, choose second preference, although you may still end up on north campus.

As the people above said, you can’t choose where you’ll live other than putting North Campus as second preference. However, from what you described you’d be happiest living on the Hill (Couzens, Alice LLoyd, or Mosher Jordan) or South Quad or East Quad. All of these are new dorms that are social but not crazy. South and East Quad have their own dining halls with good food, and the 3 dorms on the hill eat at Mosher Jordan.

East Quad will be closed this year for renovation. After the renovation, the dinning hall will be gone as the South Quad dinning hall will serve that area just like MoJo for Hill.

^^East Quad is already renovated. West Quad will be closed this year.

^^ You are right. They are moving some residential programs from East Quad back to South Quad this Fall.

“East Quad will be closed this year for renovation. After the renovation, the dinning hall will be gone as the South Quad dinning hall will serve that area just like MoJo for Hill.”

East Quad still has dining. It is the West Quad that won’t after its renovation (nearest will be South Quad across the street).

^ Yes, I mixed up between East and West. My comment should be for the West Quad.
