Hello, I was just wondering about the different types of freshman housing at umich. I have heard great things about central campus and the hill, and not so great things about north campus... If i got into LSA which hall do you think is the best for freshman(South quad, west quad, MoJo?). Also could you please list all the halls that freshmen can go to, and the pros and cons of each.
Thanks in advance!

First of all, you don’t have the option to pick which dorm to go as a freshman. However, you may apply to a residential program that is resided in a specific dorm. If you are not part of those residential programs, then 70% of the freshmen will be assigned to the North Campus including dorms and Northwood apartment. Check out those residential programs if any of them sounds interesting to you. Nevertheless, there are obligations associated with the residential programs.

you get to pick the order of preference you want, but it just gives them an idea, its not binding.

Also, if you apply and are accepted to honors, you most likely can live in South Quad, which is terrific. You do not apply to honors until you are accepted by LSA.

Just want to clarify what @KevinChen961 said that you can only choose the priority for general area (North campus or not) and room type. You don’t have the preference for specific dorms as a freshman.

As @2135ar said, South Quad is nice as it has just been renovated. However, it has no air-conditioning in the room which may be needed for a couple weeks in the beginning of Fall semester.
