Hi! Can anyone give an insider's view of the different options on South Campus freshman housing? I understand being sub-free sets Johnson apart--are there any other factors that differentiate the other choices?
Thank you for the help!!

As far as I know, your dorm is selected randomly (unless, like you said, you choose sub-free). They all have their differences, but the general consensus is that they're all about the same in terms of "experience."

So I am currently a freshman at Wake...

and dorms are potluck, meaning it is randomly selected.
The only dorm you can choose to enter is Johnson which is
substance free.

I currently live in Babcock, and I pretty much love it because
the rooms are the biggest for freshman dorms as well as one of
the biggest on campus. Plus, we have sinks in each room and centralized
temperature control unlike other freshman dorms.

Other dormitories such as Luter, are suite style meaning 4 freshman share
a bathroom. Another two Palmer and Piccolo are towards the entrance
of the university so they are stuck in a secluded end of the campus.

My D was placed in Johnston, even though she did not pick substance free, but did indicate that she was a non-smoker on the roommate questionairre. According to her only 1 fremale wing in Johnston picked substance free - the rest are in there and do not have to sign a contract or anything that they will be substance free. She says that almost all of the males there chose substance free. She was ****ed at first, but now likes that it is quieter at night when she and her friends get home from a frat party! She is happy that she did not get in the far off dorms mentioned above.
