Freshman Kelley Schedule Advice

Do you think I am taking too many classes for my first semester this fall? My sister and her friends all said I won't be able to handle all the work but while the number of classes seems high it amounts to 16.5 credit hours. Here's what I have signed up for :

BUS-A 100 Basic Accounting Skills 1 cr. (second 8 weeks)
BUS-K 201 Computer in Business 3 cr.
BUS-T 175 Kelley Compass: Apprentice 1.5 cr.
BUS-X 170 How Business Works 3 cr.
MATH-M 118 Finite Mathematics 3 cr.
EDUC-X 101 Learning strategies for finite 2 cr.
FOLK-F 131 Folklore in the United States 3 cr.

The learning strategies class, EDUC-X 101, takes up 2 cr. but does it involve actual work typical to other classes since it is a supplementary class to finite? On the other hand, A-100 is only 1 cr. but is likely to be the toughest work load. Should I drop Folklore and worry about the gen eds later on? Taking I-core pre-reqs is my main priority.

Any advice/tips would be awesome. Thanks!

I think you should really consider dropping EDUC-X101. The reason being is that it will be a waste of time. It doesn’t count towards your general education and if it did, you would need 6 credits, or two classes. If you take a 2 credit gen-ed, then it will mean you have to take an additional one. Does that make sense?

Also, I would advise not taking X170 since it is not an ICORE Pre-req and will not do anything else for you. Does it count toward your general education? I would replace that class with Bus-C104.

13.5 credits will be fine for you first semester in school so dont worry about not having enough credits. As long as you average about 4-5 icore pre-reqs a semester, you will be on pace for ICORE

Do you by chance have prof shukla for folklore

I do have prof shukla for the two folklore lectures and then prof mcgriff-miller for the discussion…I kind of chose folk-131 on impulse and wouldn’t be upset if I dropped it. I just wanted a gen-ed that could maybe be a gpa booster.

The only reason I signed up for the EDUC-X class is because many students say finite is tricky and i’m not too confident with math so I thought the support class would be good. I do study a lot though, so if the class is a waste or not that helpful I really don’t want to take it…Bus-C 104 is filled so I’m going to take it next semester. X-170 is an elective and it sounded nice to take it to get a feel of the business field.

You’re making fine progress towards your degree for a first semester freshman, so I would say your schedule is fine. I think taking the supplement to finite is a good idea and you’re taking 4 I-Core prerequisites and a gened.

You might consider dropping BUS-X 170 and pick up another Gened (A&H or natural science), but I think this is fine.

Shukla is a great professor, genuinely cares about her students, and makes sure everyone does well. I had her last semester for f121
