I have early move in, and I need to schedule my parent’s hotel room. My move in date is about 2-3 days before most freshman move in. Are there parents activities during that weekend that my parent should stay to attend, or can they leave after moving me in? Do parents typically stick around during that weekend? Thanks!
It depends on where you are going, and maybe email admissions to check. In my daughter’s move in experience, it was the opposite of parent activities. They had many student-only activities scheduled in the afternoon and evening and the unwritten hint was for parents to say their goodbyes and let the students start to dig in to their new home!
Yes, they usually want parents out of there quickly!
Okay, thank you for your responses!
Ok I have a little different answer. On Saturday (remember you are moving in early) there are some type of activities for parents scheduled. My daughter moved in early as well, I drive back because I felt I should attend (so more out of a sense of responsibility) - the activities were lightly attended and I felt they were “to entertain parents that were having difficulties dropping off their student”. I would highly suggest for a parent to not attend especially if your student is moving in early.
I’d ask the same question for Accepted Student Days & NSO: are parents expected to stay the whole time / be there at all?
Accepted student day yes, the parents stayed with us the entire time. @PSU2023
Both are attended by students with their parents.
Accepted Students days are focused on allowing the student an opportunity to make their decision to attend.
NSO -most students are with their parents. If this is your first student at Penn State, I would highly recommend attending. Plus setting up bank account - linking funds to student ID- if under 18 that could cause a problem. Students stay at dorms- there are a day and a half of information sessions for parents . The end of the second day students schedule their first semester of classes.
