Hi Guys!
I’m going to be a freshman in Duke’s Class of 2019, and I had a big question that I wanted to clear up. I have a friend who is going to live right on campus but that is not a student at Duke. Would I be allowed to sleep at this person’s house whenever I wanted to, despite living in East Campus already. I would have a car to make the short commute from campus to this person’s house each day, so that wouldn’t be a problem. The issue is whether I will have to tell someone I’m doing this or I could just go sleep there whenever I wanted and for extended periods of time? Are there rules against staying out at night? I really need this cleared up and soon because of my friend’s plans. Thanks for the help guys!
Yes, you can stay with your friend as much as you want, and no you don’t have to tell anyone. It’s college. There are no curfews.
That said, just make sure that hanging out with your high school friend all the time doesn’t take away from getting to know your classmates.
@topranked: “I have a friend who is going to live right on campus but is not a Duke student.”
@bluedevil06 is entirely correct, but your foregoing, quoted statement isn’t. You friend may live near campus, but on-campus living is limited to enrolled students (and a few other Dukies).
Yes, you can do this, but I’d advise against it. Spending time with the people in your dorm is one of the best ways to make friends early in college.
Why would you want to live off campus, especially freshman year. This is the most important year. Suggest highly that you stay on east campus
