Freshman Record?

DD will be starting her freshman year at University of South Carolina and we have received a mailing asking us to participate in the Freshman Record. This is a printed and bound directory of incoming freshman that is availabe to students for a fee. It includes student's photo, questionaire that asks student's interests and field of study.

Is participation in this directory widespread and is it of any use to these kids? Offhand its not something we would consider, but want to make sure this is not some school tradition "not to be missed". Any insight would be helpful.

DonHo
we didnt purchase it when S started there.seems like a "moneymaker" to me
S says he cant remember anybody having a copy of it but maybe its a thing girls would enjoy having more ?
Good luck to your D.Let us old timer parents know if you have any questions about the school.
What dorm is your D going to be in?

Thanks, you confirmed my initial thought on this. D is in Honors College and will be in Maxcy. Attended Orientation last week and she is super excited. I'm going to PM you a couple dorm related questions, thanks for the offer.

answered your PM let me know any other info you might need!

I didn't get it, and I never met anyone who seemed to have it.

I met one person who got it. From what I could tell from him, its only purpose was to go through and find hot girls, who he then never spoke to. Really useful.

My D did not purchase it. I don't even remember her mentioning anything about it. My D just finished her freshman year, and is also in the honors college. PM me if you have any questions that I or my D could answer for you.

Thanks for the offer kmkord, please check your PM box --

Same here as far as the Freshman Record, Don Ho. My son was a freshman last year, and we had the same concerns as you..was it a must have or just another sales pitch? Son did not prder one, and he did not know anyone who did. You daughter will soon make many friends through classes and organizations, dorm meetings, etc. My son absolutely loves USC and had a wonderful experience the first year. Be glad to answer any questions you might have!
