<p>Still trying to figure out how to register for classes when AP results will not be out until July. Also, AP English Language and Composition - does getting a 4 or 5 get you out of the mandatory writing requirement, or does only AP Literature and Composition qualify?</p>
<p>I think they said at Freshman Day that everyone has to take College Writing now, regardless of AP scores or SAT scores. They felt like the students weren’t prepared for the type of writing that was required of them, even if they had strong writing skills as measured on those tests.</p>
<p>For what it’s worth, that’s also true at Harvard.

<p>Has your student been contacted by an advisor yet? It was my impression that they will be getting calls from academic advisors to talk them through some of this.</p>
<p>Actually, my D tried to set up an appointment with an advisor and was told she would meet with one at the Eagle Summit. Not very helpful.</p>

From talking with an advisor at Admitted Students Day, you are supposed to go off of how well you feel you did on the AP test. If you are confident that you got a 4 or 5 on a certain class, then you should not include that in your schedule.</p>
<p>Having spoken with an advisor trying to register for classes, AP scores for English place you in LIT-106, Writing Intensive. Apparently, 6 credits aren’t given to completely test out of College Writing. Instead, you just take 3 credits of College Writing. I am unsure if AP scores for English can get you out of other foundational requirements with the change such as General Education Areas 1 or 2 foundation classes.</p>
<p>If you go to the Online Freshman Guide and find your advisor’s e-mail address, e-mail would probably be an easier form of communication until Orientation. I have been e-mailing back and forth with an advisor in SPA and they have been very helpful and understanding of the fact that a lot of people are confused over the process and are trying to figure out the logistics of scheduling.</p>
<p>ebrincka - do you know which AP English places you into Writing Intensive? The guide says AP Composition, but not sure if that is AP Literature and Composition or AP Language and Composition - or perhaps either one.</p>
