Freshman seeking advice. Please help!

I was searching for info on pre-med and some good schools to look into and I got sucked into this entire pre-med forum. I was reading a lot on people who attend CC and whether or not it is possible or rather probable for a CC student to end up in Med school. I consider myself to be of above average intelligence. I scored a 1300 on my SAT and carried a 3.9 GPA through high school. I dropped out of HS in my senior year due to lack of challenge and hatred for the social system of my school. Here I am 3 years later attending a CC for financial reasons (my parents dropped any thought of paying for college when I dropped out of HS) and my career options are narrowing in on Medicine. I dreamed as a kid of being a doctor and for years it was the only career I even considered. I thought my dreams had been shattered after I dropped out of HS but now I'm done with my first year at CC and have a cumulative GPA of 3.95. Does anyone have any input of what path may give me the best shot at achieving my goal of Med school admission? I'm willing to do over almost any of my credits once I'm accepted to a 4 yr school. What are some good majors for a 4 yr degree and what are some good schools to think about for a pre-med? Born and raised in Michigan, UMich was always my ideal school and I seem to remember them offering a complete "pre-med" degree but I am now unable to find anything about it on their website. Any suggestions anyone can offer would be of tremendous help.

i dont think any school offers a pre med degree, but they probably offer a pre-med track in addition to your major. im sure with great first yr gpa you will do fine preparing for med school. take an array of science courses and see how you like them and if you want to go to med school study very hard in your prereqs and other classes.

Badfish: Keep up the good work at your CC. Finish the 2 years, retake all the premed science requirements at your 4 year school and score a 30 or better on your MCAT and I think you'll have done it.

I'm in almost the same boat. -At a small Catholic college, I know what I want but GOD!!! Everyone says the same thing "do well on science requirements score well on MCAT", but shouldn't I be doing more science programs, summer pre-med programs, majoring in a lucrative field like bussiness, what is actually gonna be that thing that makes the adcom's say this is a qualified and succesful applicant-we want this individual to be apart of our legacy of med. school grads?

Therein lies the holy grail, eh?
