Freshman Self-Studying AP Environmental Science

I am a high school freshman currently enrolled in the following courses:

Honors English 9
Honors Algebra 2
Honors World History
Honors Biology
Spanish 2
Financial Literacy
Concert Band
Physical Education

As a very independent learner who has experience with online courses, I would like to self-study an AP test this year. Given that I am very interested in the the sciences, and my school doesn’t offer AP Environmental Science, this is the subject I want to teach myself. Do you think this is a good idea? Any advice?

It’s not really worth it. Do fun things, like Science Olympiad or math competitions.

Colleges aren’t all that impressed if you self-study AP courses, so I wouldn’t. awesomepolygot is right, focus on science-based clubs and competitions instead.

I wouldn’t do it, but if you want to, the Friedland and Relyea APES book is WONDERFUL. I used it last year in my APES class–although not self study, I could have easily. The topic is interesting, the book is well written, and there are lots of AP practice questions at the end of each chapter. I also purchased the Princeton review which was a great supplement!

Thanks!

My school has no math team or Science Olympiad so unfortunately that isn’t an option.

Form one
