freshman shedual

Hi, i am a freshman this fall. I am premed, so obviously i have many requirements to fill. My schedule is:
Math 3A--TOWSNER
LS 1--Pires
English Comp 3--Rubinson

My question is that i have been hearing LS1 is very difficult, especially with Pires. What is everyone's opinion with taking LS1 fall quarter of my freshman year. Should i keep it or switch to Chem 14a and take LS1 when i get more used to everything.

Thanks for the help in advance!

LS1 sucks in general. Taking Chem 14A with lavelle is a tad better than LS1 with Pires (slide-heavy, need to take good notes during class). I’d rather switch to lavelle, given the choice.

Glad to see English fits in your schedual

lmao ark

will it matter? cause you are going to take both either way… if i had to choose, I would just take chem14 with the freshmen and form some alliances… i mean study groups… haha

yea take chem. you dont want to get behind in chem. lavelle is a good teacher too.

rubinson is great for english, nice guy, generous grader (but try hard, hes big on improvements between drafts)

I had Rubinson too. I got a B+ though. :(

LS1 isn’t really required for anything, so 14A would be the better choice to get started on the chem series. Many people choose to take LS1 after LS4, but there’s no advantage or disadvantage to that. It’s just a bunch of random evolution and ecology stuff that doesn’t really relate to anything else so it doesn’t matter when you take it.

ls1 is probably the most interesting of the four. evolution stuff is awesome. and you dont have to memorize THAT many animals.

i would say take chem 14A just so you can have a shot of getting 14L which might not be available during spring quarter due to so many people needing it, while if you got 14A out of the way early you can try to sign up for it in winter and in spring (somewhat double your chance?)

She duel? Where?

sign me up!

yo dawg i heard 14L is hard as hell.

thanks for all the quick replies. well i would have to take ls1 sometime because i am a Physiological Science major and it is required.

But i take it the general consensus to take chem series my freshman year and do the ls series later on? thanks again for the help! i really appreciate it.

I hated LS1 the most…the material did not interest me in the slightest.

You can start the LS series with LS2 if you want. LS1 does not have to be taken before LS2, you just need to take it sometime before PS111A (Winter of 3rd year) for PhySci.

and PhySci FTW!! :D

Yes, i know i can start it before ls2. The only problem is that all the ls2 lectures are full:/ so i figured i would just start with ls1.

I just wanted to know the difficulty of the class and if it would be wise for a freshman to wait and take it after they adjusted to college life(aka quarter system, study methods, etc). Or could i just take it now and still be able to get an A?

Again, thanks for the help

nah just take 14a. there are better ls1 teachers. as i said, you cant afford to miss 14a…youre going to be taking chem every quarter.

How did you get into UCLA if you cant even spell schedule??
hehe

actually, LS1 with pires is not nearly as bad as everyone makes it out to be. That schedule sounds fine.
