Freshman summer assignments?

Hi, I was wondering if there are any incoming Freshman summer readings/assignment that Berkeley expects? I know that some other Universities have some....

Thanks.

Lol. No, don’t worry about it. Enjoy your summer.

In a few classes, I think the instructor may e-mail something out. Otherwise, don’t worry about it.

isn’t there a summer reading list for us? The theme is like, science books or something.

For College of L&S

I just got a book, The Omnivore’s Dilemma, mailed to me by Berkeley. I had no idea about this until today, when I received it.

First page upon opening the book says Dear Berkeley Students, Congrats…

We send you this book as part of the “On the Same Page” program. Each year we bring an eminent writer or artist to campus and plan events around his or her visit. This is our way of welcoming you to the College of L&S and to the rich intellectual environment you will find at Berkeley.

This year’s author is Michael Pollan… Please read this book over the summer and come to campus ready to participate in the On the Same Page events we have planned for the month of September.

Blah blah blah…

Nah, that’s optional.
For our “On the Page” assignment (08), we were supposed to watch the DVDs that Ang Lee directed since he was coming to campus. I think it’s related to these other classes that you can take but I’m guessing you’re not signed up for those (I think it’s these freshmen seminars?).

The summer before college will probably be the most carefree one you will have so enjoy it.

Yeah, I just looked it up, and it looks like it’s optional but highly suggested. Still though, budget cuts and they decide to spend $$ on giving away free books? :\ I heard the first batch of books cost $70,000.

^ hahaha that’s what I’m thinking too. I bet only 1/4 of the students who got are actually going to read it.

Haha, yeah. We got DVDs, and I was to lazy to watch those. The book is actually more enticing to me.
