Freshman Transfer Vassar or Oberlin

I am currently a freshman at Fordham. It is not the right fit for me. I have applied to transfer to both Vassar and Oberlin beginning winter. Both accept freshman transfers. Anyone have any stats on acceptance rates? I also believe that they are not financial aid blind for this sub group. Any thoughts or suggesstions

don't know much about oberlin but vassar last year was 320 applied for 10 spots...soo preety tough like 3% acceptance. That doesn't necessarily mean it will be the same this semester though. Good luck!! btw..what dont you like about Fordham? I'm applying there so just wondering.

Is that statistic only for the spring semester? I know that the Vassar website says that in the last two years between 15% and 20% of transfers have gained admission.

Wesleyan is most friendly with transfer in terms of acceptance rate at least. Vassar is definitely under 15 percent, but not as low as 3 percent. oberlin is around 25 percent.

youve been in college for two months and youre already applying for transfer? youve got to be kidding yourself

colleges are not going to accept a transfer after only one semester, that is ridiculous...both of these schools (i go to one of them) are highly competitive and have to reject very well qualified applicants...unless you are a mindblowing applicant, they may allow you transfer freshman year but you will not stand a chance of getting accepted

the stat that vassar has one its website may be old. the 10 spots for 320 applicants is a direct quote from my rejection letter last year (fall 08). A big part of their admissions rate is the fact that they are redoing the dorms, so they have less spots available. And no, I am not making this up. My really good friends go to Vassar.

I am not kidding or ridiculous and yes, I am mindblowing

then i guess you'll have no trouble getting into either of these schools

what are your stats?

dufflebag

you iz a dick

Last year, the transfer situation at Vassar was particularly tough because, as rcl268 mentioned, one of the dorms on-campus was being redone. In addition to this, the freshman class (class of 2011) was larger than the school had expected it to be... more students accepted admission than usual, so our class had 680 or so students instead of the more usual 650. I imagine this number has come down a bit, seeing as I know of at least six students who transferred out of my class to a different school.

Basically, my point is that last year's number was much lower than usually. I'm not sure what the acceptance rate usually is for transfer students, but would imagine that it's usually no lower than 10% (I think I've heard that somewhere, come to think of it). Although it's certainly difficult to transfer into Vassar, I would recommend you try for it... the same factors that were in play last year shouldn't be this year seeing as the dorm construction is supposed to be done in time for the fall 2009 semester and the new freshman class (2012) is not as large as 2011 was.

whats your problem? if you don't want advice then GET OFF the boards and STOP posting

i asked for your stats, not because i didnt believe that they werent good, but to see if they were really that good that somebody who is 7 weeks into his college experience at fordham is really able to make the jump to vasser or oberlin

if they were that mindblowing, my guess is that you would have posted them already...seriously if you're applying to get out a couple months into college, you cannot have possibly given it a fair shake. my guess is you didn't get into your top choices for freshman admissions and now think you are too good for your current school and want a school with a more pretigious reputation...this happens all the time

watch your step, buddy, you keep cursing and you'll be off this board with the quickness

gl

hey buddy,

lets meet in the playground and you can try and beat me up

dufflebag,

I'm sure you have a point that your school is selective, prestigious, and varying in terms of amounts of transfer students they accept. However, I think you're incorrect about the likelihood of students applying for transfer. Why would the school offer this application if they did not intend to evaluate the applications for intent of accepting? Do you think they just want to waste their time? Besides, these schools need to fill spaces for their own expected attrition. I'm not sure where you're getting your information from, but reading information, hearing personal experiences from others, has shaped my opinion.
If your tone reflects the general populous of students at these schools, I certainly would not want to transfer. I'm not sure why you would want to waste your time being critical of prospective transfer students, considering you already attend one of these schools. Like Dr. Dre, you've got no reason to be in the rhyme game any more - you've already made it. So stop rapping.

great first post tak...

if your going to start a thread on here about transferring, prepare to be critisized...if you dont want your application critisized, then log off

and to your first point...please tell me where i said they wouldnt accept freshman applicants. they are not, however, going to take in a freshman applicant over a sophmore or junior one of equal strength. most sucessful transfer applicants have over 30 credits. if you were denied for freshman admissions, you will not be accepted in your first semester of freshman year unless something incredible has happened and you will in all likelihood be denied unless you are really an exceptional applicant. having no idea of your performance or potential in college will place freshman applicants at a disadvantage, and if you don't believe me i found this little ditty on vassar's website:

"There is no minimum credit requirement; students may apply as early as the first semester of their freshman year. (However, students who have completed several semesters are generally more competitive candidates.)"

night night

******bagjesus,

you are really funny, nice practical joke. you can't even spell, "critisized" and are too lazy to use spell check. very funny postings, I like your humor :)
