Freshman willing to answer any of your questions!!!

So I was an avid reader/poster at CC. However,as soon as I stepped foot on this beautiful campus, I sorta forgot about CC!
UNC-C.H. is an amazing school. The campus is huge and there are lots of things to get involved in. The sports are truly fantastic and the environment is quite laid back. The classes are quite challenging, but can be quite manageable. If you study everyday, you will do fine!
Anyways, I am here to answer any question about UNC-C.H. Whether its a question on admissions, or just the college life, I'm here to help!
Salut!
-Danny :)

just out of curiosity, danny, where do you live on campus? ive been seeing you a lot around the UNC thread since last year...we might have seen eachother on campus or something

ALSO i can answer questions too (im c/o 2012)...not to hijack danny's thread or anything...i just felt i should contribute something more towards the point of this thread

Me three! (10 char)

are you guys IS or OOS admits and waht do you think stood out the most in your application?

Hey guys.
Sorry for not responding.
Swoopes,
A major portion of your application and the admission director's is your essay. Work on it!
To Bali:
I live in Hinton James. Where do you live?

Swoopes, I am instate. I'll answer the 2nd question a bit later, as I have to go right now.

c/o 2011 right here, so I can answer your questions better than any of these freshies. ;)

I'm OOS and think that my essays and the fact that I earned my Gold Award for Girl Scouts probably stood out the most. I think one of my recommendations was really, really good too.

is this the first year they changed the transfer essay from why u wanna transfer to know giving u three options.....

kinda dont like that they changed it only because i spent all summer perfecting my y transfer essay...but i guess i gotta start from the drawing board no biggie though...itll all b worth it if i get in

"c/o 2011 right here, so I can answer your questions better than any of these freshies."
...well, I don't see the word sophomore in the post title!
lol, anyways...
Besides the essays, master your college application and edit it every week. Make it flawless.
Swoopes, I'm an OOS from Florida :)

I saw this question on another forum, and thought it was interesting: How intellectual are the students as a whole/how inclined are they to delve into intellectual discussions?

The good thing about UNC is that you can find almost any type of person here. If you want to have lots of intellectual discussions about the quintessence of dust, etc, you can find people who will do that with you. Is everyone interested in having intellectual discussions? No. But there are plenty of people who are.

I will say that there is LOTS of interest from almost everybody on campus about the election. I find myself constantly getting into discussions about politics/candidates with pretty much everyone, even when I'm not looking to. It's definitely a very politically-active campus.

It's kinda cool, because I've had super intellectual conversations with the same people I've partied with. There are also plenty of intellectual groups on campus so if there's something particular you're interested in, you can pretty easily find a group of people that are interested in it too.

Yea, I agree with Luxlibertas.
Everyone is politically engaged.

wow, I haven't been on this thread in a while. apologies!

Danny im in ehaus, so that basically makes us twins.

swoopes: I'm instate...and to be honest I applied to UNC almost as an afterthought. But I think what stood out in my essays is the fact that I'm really big on diversity, so I put a lot of that in there. I know UNC is really big on that too, so make sure you work that in there somewhere.

Ahhh.... Ehaus...the sister dorm of the repulsive Hinton James!

Are undergrads limited to only one degree? Say you are interested in psychology, which would give u a BS, and arts as well (BA track). Would it be possible to graduate with a BS and a BA? How about if both majors fall under the same degree?

Lastly, if you fill in the application to the Pogue, will you be automatically unconsidered for the Carolina scholars, William R Davie, etc? And speaking of them, how much of each (scholars, davie, pogue, etc) are offered?

thank you!

Hi!

You mentioned that the essay may be the most important part of your app...

Im OOS and just applied for the Morehead, which has 5 essays on its own. Do you think the admissions will have access to/read those when I am considered for general admission?

thanks :)

No. The Morehead is an entirely separate process in a separate building with separate staff. Admissions won't have access to your Morehead materials.

I guess I would just ask...Is there anything you know about UNC-Chapel Hill now, for better or for worse, that you wish you knew when you were applying?

thanks, luxlibertas.

so you think that I'm safe with using one of my Morehead essays to answer one of the UNC prompts? I expanded it, but it's still the same topic. (I know the answer is yes, but I guess I am double checking because it makes me nervous to use an essay twice for one school)
