freshman winter break?

what do most freshman do for winter break? i usually go with my family to a carribean resort but now that im old enough i definitely dont want to go with my family. i would like to do some kind of tropical vacation with friends but since school hasnt started yet i dont know who they will be. normally we book vacation in february and i would think its nearly impossible to get a reservation in any decent resort for christmas week booking as late as i would have to if i go with school friends. for freshman year do most people go with high school friends? im confused

Usually go home. Relax. Spend time with friends. Etc, etc.

For winter break most people go home to hang out with families and high school friends or go on vacation with their families. If you want to go somewhere tropical and warm with your Cornell friends then just wait for spring break in march.

You have five weeks off. I would typically just spend time with family, read, and watch movies. I would also generally work and make money. Maybe a trip to Toronto or Chicago for New Years.

Also a lot of students do work for their different ECs over winter break. Even though the academics at Cornell stop, the ECs generally continue. Whether that be touring with the Glee Club, preparing for rush, or writing articles for the Sun.

Go home, visit your friends, maybe you get the chance to go away, but mostly just chill out. Get a temp job or something if you wanna make some cash. You'll start getting bored after a few days.

Work over winter break and save some money....then use it for Spring Break :-D

ok, so i wont be judged negatively for not going away? even in rush at top sororities? at home vacation is one giant competition/show off breeding ground and a change from that would be very refreshing.

when you rush, the girls may ask you what you did over break just to spark some conversation. they wont cut you (even at the "top" sororities) just because you didnt go on a first class caribbean cruise. just be honest about yourself. but really, rush is 6 months away. dont worry about it now

Cruises normally aren't that classy.

^^ Agreed.

dafunk, maybe thats because you are thinking of the cheap Carnival Cruiseline cruises. go on a Celebrity Cruiseline cruise and then come back to me and tell me that it isnt classy

That's why I said normally. Nonetheless, if I was a girl trying to display a facade of wealth I don't think I would be bragging about going on a commercial cruise.

Right. She would be traveling on her family's private 80 foot yacht through South America.

You can always rent it.

i'd work and chill out. a vacation during the middle of it is nice as well.

oh, and sororities do ask the break question. give me a break, of course they are asking to see where your family is on the social ladder.

so will sororities think im poor (im not at all) if i just chill at home? will not going away hurt me significantly in the rush process?

Well...don't tell them you spent your winter doing cancer research (and got a publication out of it) and shadowing physicians. Apparently doing something that important and meaningful isn't something they care about....given that some girls I talked to in rush tried to change the subject after it.

haha...someday I will put my anti-sorority bitterness behind me :-)

they won't judge you for staying home. Just be interesting and don't be like oh I chilled at home and did nothing.

haha...oh dear. I guess I'll have to work hard to avoid sorority threads when rush time comes :-)

I don't understand why I'm so bitter...I was never involved in a sorority...and I dropped out of rush before cuts came..oh well.
