What would you all say is the easiest writing seminar?

English 140: Ithaca and Cornell In Collaboration.

In this class, students have class once a week at Cornell, and then travel down to Ithaca High School another day to hold classes there. Hence, students really have two sets of classmates: one set from Cornell, the other comprised of high school seniors and juniors. Its really fun...being able to re-experience high school life such a short time after leaving lol. And, not to worry, the professor (D. Evans) drives everyone down to the high school in one of the Cornell Outdoor Education vans.

Now this class might not be the easiest, but it was definitely the easiest of my two writing seminars.

For any interested in taking this class (and its not being offered for the Spring'08 semester) not that there is a binding cap limit, as the van only seats a limited number of students. Whereas other professors might reluctantly go over the allowed limit by a few students, you won't see that in this class.

The writing seminars are all pretty easy. As long as you write a decent essay with careful proofreading and original ideas (which you have to do for any class with essays) then you should get a good grade. Of course, that's easier said than done for some people.

if people tell you Portraits of the Self, DONT LISTEN TO THEM. harder and more annoying than i thought. it was a big mistake, but thank god i dont need another one!

Interest probably plays a part in how "easy" a class is. Other than that, I heard you should look up professors for FWS as well, since they can make or break the class.

I heard not to take anything from the English department, that's all the classes starting with ENGL or something? ...any truth in this? cuase some of the topics in the EGNL classes seemed interesitng!

Both of my writing seminars were under the english dept, and i loved them. I do think they may have been a bit more challenging, grade-wise, but I would definitely not advise people to completely avoid an english writing seminar. Its not as if taking a writing seminar in another subject automatically guarantees it will be easy anyways. My best advice is to chose based on what is interesting to you, and based on who teaches it. I always tried to get the scoop on the prof/grad student who taught the seminar before signing up for it (through word-of-mouth and ratemyprof.com).

or you can end up with a crappy grad student teaching the class

I took portraits of the self this semester. Luckily I had a professor, and the class was interesting. I didn't think it was that tough grade-wise, but it was a lot of work. I hope the other seminars aren't as work-intensive as this. Maybe it's because it's in the English department? I'm still glad I took it, but I don't think I'd want to go through the work again.

Why wouldn't you take a writing seminar from the English department? Those writing seminars actually teach you how to write whereas many of the ones in the other departments are a joke.

FWS are huge grade droppers, i took Cultural studies, eng 111, it was hard!!! and the hws are about 3 hours long each, usually 2 hours of reading and 1 hour of answering questions. the essays are hard too!! a friend of mine told me Faerie tales is easy and i'll try for that next semester
