Freshman Year Course Load

Just wondering how this compared with other freshman year schedules. I have honors biology + env. science, and us history credits too, but those don’t affect my freshman year classes.

English II
Chinese I OR Spanish III*
AP Human Geography
Honors Physics
Honors Math II (Geometry)
Orchestra
PE

*I’m not sure which to take- I have credits for Spanish I and II, but I’m more interested in learning Chinese and think it’d be more useful in the long-run since it’s a marketable skill that fewer people have. I’m hesitant to take it though, because taking Spanish III freshman year would boost my GPA since I could start taking AP language classes earlier on.

Looks pretty good m8y

What do I do about the language though ://

Try for Chinese 1. If need be, you can use an elective to take Spanish 3later on if you wish, either to replace Chinese 3 or in addition to it.

Well, I can tell you the wrong way to think about it. which you’ve already said.

That’s the wrong way.
• The GPA boost over 4 years would be negligible
• Because there is no weighting standard for US HS’s, colleges will view the UW GPA and/or convert using their own parameters.

Loading a schedule with AP’s just because you can has all the hallmarks of an AP junkie, which will be readily transparent to colleges.

Now getting back to the question of Spanish vs. Chinese. Take the one that interests you more and/or will be more useful for you in life.

While probably true, be aware that 4 years of HS Chinese will get you nowhere close to being proficient enough for it to be a marketable skill; you would need to continue to pursue it in college and possibly beyond.
