Freshman Year Grades

Did anyone get into an ivy-league school, bs/md, or top school with very poor freshman grades (or atleast first term). If so, what grades and what did you end up w/ (upward trend). Thanks!

My sister, who is in MIT now, has a friend who didn't do well freshman year. Had an 82 average in level 2 courses. Then, the following years, she made up for it and scored over a 1500 on her SAT. I think she ended up with a 3.75 GPA or so. It was pretty impressive how she improved her grades and she actually thinks that some of the tougher schools she applied to saw it as a strength. I know Cornell especially regards that transition highly - she, my sis's friend, applied there, too.

G-d Bless you :)
That is really nice to hear. I had a pathetic first term freshman average (76.67) but much better second term, I had a (94.43). I guess the only thing is to do much better now and to do well on my SATs. But wow, MIT is probably the most competative school. I figured they kind of weigh the freshman (especially first term) grades very lightly, but I really hope they just don't see a mediocore GPA for my final grades in high school w/o thinking about freshman year. Thanks! Anyone else?

Anyone else.. experiences?

My brother had a 3.17 or something as a freshman, but got it together for 10-12th. He ended up with about a 3.6 GPA and 1480 SATs, and now attends Wesleyan.
