freshman year schedule. help, por favor?

I'd really like to know what's too tough of a schedule... as I'm getting mixed answers.

My goal is to graduate within three years (our financial status as of now cannot afford a fourth year at UW. We're out of state by the way)... as a potential bioE, compE, or EE major. To do this, I'm relying on Early Admissions into those three majors, as I will have all the prereqs done by the end of freshman year. I also have AP credits that knock out all my general ed requirements, if that helps explain the situation.

Here is my schedule:

CSE 142 [4 credits]
MATH 126 [5 credits]
CHEM 145 (H) [5 credits]
SPHSC 100 [3 credits]

total: 17 credits. I plan to drop either CSE 142 or SPHSC 100. Which should I drop?

Here's my visual schedule:

i would drop cse 142
i heard one of the assignments takes 12 hours to complete and the course is very time consuming

I would drop sphsc 100 since it's not a required course for any of the majors. I'm not sure about ee but for bioe and cs/cse, cse 142 is a required pre-req class for early admission so you should definitely take it if you want to apply.

As for your schedule difficulty, it isn't impossible and quite do-able. I took a similar schedule during winter quarter (cse 142, math 125, chem 152) and did fine. I actually just got accepted into bioe as an early admit.

The later assignments in CSE 142 can be time consuming but if you look at the example programs that the professor writes in lecture, you can basically change it a bit to make it work for your homework. Math 126 can be tough though since you get into topics that weren't covered in high school calculus - multivariable, ect. Just don't slack off too much and you'll be okay.

I agree with ksx88.
As about CSE 142, I have not taken it yet, but I read good 4 reviews for this course at 5caps.com . Everybody likes it, though it is time consuming. At least you will learn something useful.

It's doable, but the worst part about your schedule has to be the spacing. Takes away your mornings and afternoons.

Hi, thanks for the reviews. I've given it some thought and asked around, and here is my schedule for now.

math 126 (5 credits)
cse 142 (4 credits)
phys 121 (5 credits)

total: 14 credits

Does anyone who has taken at least one of these classes have more insight on these? Like, how difficult, how time consuming, pace, etc. (especially phys 121) Thanks! :)

I've taken all of them. MAth 126 I thought was the easiest of the intro calc series, but many other people tought it was the hardest. It's not difficult though, especially once you get the taylor series pattern. CSE142 is kinda fun I thought, I guess it can be time consuming but it is an enjoyable work. Of course you might disagree but many people enjoy the class. Physics from what I can tell some people just cant get good grades in but I thought it was easy too. Especially 121 which is all mechanics and easy to visualize stuff. These are all courses before people have been weeded out so it's probably just the weed-outees that are complaining. So your schedule is very do-able and I'd consider even adding something else if you think you can too, like TC231 (technical writing). Its another requirement for many engineering majors and is very easy as well.

are the FIG the whole year? or just autumn?
