Freshman year schedule help!

Hi!! I am in desperate need of advice.

I am a Macaulay Honors college Freshman at CUNY. I currently don’t know what I will major in but am thinking about a double major in Political Science and Marketing OR a double major in Political Science and HR. However, a big part of me is also heavily considering becoming a teacher. The point is: I am extremely confused!

As of now, I am planning on taking these classes for spring 2020:

  1. English (required), 2) A Political Science course, 3) Principles of Marketing, 4) A required Macaulay Honors Seminar course, 5) Mind, Brain, Behavior (Psych)

I also have a sixth course on my schedule for now, which is Human Origins (anthropology). This is only because anthro is a required pathway, but I can choose when to take it.

The first question I have is:
Should I take six classes next term? I know it depends on my professors, and I tried to get the best ones I could. But, with your experience do you recommend taking six courses as a freshman? I honestly think I can do it however I have a part-time job and also volunteer once a week. Then again, almost all of my pathways are already fulfilled due to AP credits from high school. Therefore, my advisor told me to not worry about it for now. But, I’m anxious to get rid of the rest of my pathways for some reason.

The second question I have is:
Should I even take Mind, Brain, & Behavior?? This is a psych course and I have taken AP Psych and am currently in Social Psych (Fall 2019). The reason I wanted to take this course was mainly because I am interested in learning a bit about neuroscience and this class goes into that. I don’t think I would want a career in neuroscience or anything of the sort, however I can’t help but have a strange urge to take this class,- once again the main reason being that it just sounds cool. I want to take classes that I like, and I feel like since I am only a Freshman I can “waste” my time taking a class I don’t need simply because it interests me.

Does anyone have any advice?? Pls help ASAP!! Should I take 6 courses??! And, should I even take MB&B?? Or will I regret taking it since it doesn’t fulfill any pathway or major requirement??!

Thank you so much for the help in advance…

First of all, colleges vary from one to another with different requirement of curriculum/courses toward a degree.
From personal experience, I don’t recommend taking 6 classes at your first semester as it is quiet depressing and exhausting especially if you are looking for a good grade for all of them but it really only depends on personal situation/preference. Try to calm yourself a bit since you’ve got a lot of time to complete your degree, relax and enjoy your pleasure free time after a long journey of high school. My first semester in college was a total mess as I couldn’t get used to it or was simply being lazy and ended up dropping multiple classes due to frustration. Took some time to ease myself and catch up quickly with mixture of A and A- the next semester. Anyway, if you think you can handle it, go for it.
As for the Psychology course, it is not necessary since you’ve already took relevant courses but again, if you are really interested in the subject and having the time for that, it doesn’t hurt to try it.

Thank you for the help, I really appreciate it.
