Freshmen and having a car on campus

I live about an hour away from the campus, and it would be very nice to be able to have a car to get back and forth to home andwhatnot
but is it hard for freshmen to get parking?
I trhink my regents letter said if you get that you get parking but... thats a long shot so what about others?
thank you!

you need an off campus job thats far enough to warrant having a car.

If I work at starbucks... would it be worth it for when I go to college to transfer to a decently far store... hmmmm
how pathetic

I want a car badly!

yeah, well. join the club.

^ amen to that

btw, your vtec refers to honda engines right?

ok, basically EVERYONE on campus wants a car.
they wanted it so badly, that people lied about having an off-campus job just to get one (risking the occasional audit). now, you can't even APPLY for parking without already having an off-campus job (if you don't already have parking through regents, etc).
so basically, here is how freshman can park:
-on the street
-using someone else's permit (at your own risk, and the permit holder's)
-buy someone's apartment parking (commonly seen price: $150/month)
-did i mention street parking?

yah. like VTEC said, join the club... freshmen in dorms = no parking. nada zip zilch unless you do one of the above options. if you street park, you'll be so paranoid about moving your car and losing your spot, you'll never move your car except for street cleaning. but by then your car battery will have died from lack of use, and you will be stuck at 3am with no way of moving your car, and a ticket being imminent in 5 hours. then, someone will jump your car, you'll move it out of the street cleaning zone... but you'll accidentally move it into another no parking zone and get a ticket anyway.

at least, that's what happened to my roomie last year. street parking is NOT fun, but if you have to, it can be done if you don't think it's more of a hassle than it's worth.

me, i can't wait to get an apartment with parking!!!

some reason, ive always been able to get parking for spring quarters without a job or anything. you have to apply in person to get around the job requirement though, since the online form doesnt let you continue without a job.

but this year they f*#$ing lost my application!!!! how the hell is that possible. if they hadnt lost it i probably would have a permit for spring quarter right now.

yes

hmm that's a good tip to apply in person... didn't know that!
def. will try that next year lol.

shhhh. keep it on the DL. dont want to reduce our chances!

what if I keep my job 45 miles away?
And work maybe once every other weekend? (I plan to anyhow)
or how far do I have to work? A local store in westwood or what?

its not only the distance. its also how much you work.

once every other weekend is probably not enough. you'd need like 10 hrs a week at least probably.

Well that then brings me to my next question

are there any starbucks nearby :)

if it was close I imagine I would do 12-16 hours a week

What kind of question is that? There are Starbucks everywhere...

yeah there's a starbucks in westwood dude

I live one mile from UCLA and don't have a work, but I've a parking permit.

^ what excuse did you use?

How much is parking again, per quarter?

I'm looking into it for next year...

it goes up every year. currently $225 per quarter
