Freshmen dorm assignment

hi, there are lots of comments so i didn’t read all of them, but OSU actually did an overall raffle to see which students get in which dorms, so if there were any preferences filled out it really didn’t matter. sophomores and freshmen all had the same chance of getting in a nice or a not-so-nice dorm as of this year.

i’ll also add, i’ve heard that a lot of the older dorm buildings actually have a better sense of community among the residents than the newer ones. i lived in smith-steeb both years and i actually got along really well with my floors, but because the older dorms are smaller, everyone in the building tends to get along, not just the student’s neighbors.

@sweatpants19 That information is not entirely true. There was not a raffle for what dorm students would be put into. Sophomores were able to pick their specific residence hall room for the year. Freshman were able to preference their area of campus and that was it. Sophomores therefore had a much higher chance of getting the dorm they wanted than Freshmen.

I do agree with your comment about the older dorm buildings though, I have also found that they have a better sense of community.
