Freshmen Dorming Options

Is there any on-campus option where incoming freshmen would have their own bedroom rather than share one?

If not, what's the best possible room a freshman could get?

I’m pretty sure all incoming freshmen are required to have a roommate if they live on campus. For best dorms, I would say South or West. They are a lot bigger/nicer that the ones in east.

Thanks bubbly. Do you know if freshmen can stay in North Halls 2 or 4 person suites?

Freshman can stay in North Halls. However, freshman must have a roommate - single rooms and their lottery are open only to rising sophomores and up.

Honestly the dorms are more or less the same room wise. Wests rooms are significantly larger, if youre looking for space. The food in west is also a lot better (west wing offers more options dont tell me its all the same)

Dont bank on getting a North suite, as they’re popular and North is the smallest residence hall area, as such, theres not many rooms to give out.

Living in east now, I would still recommend it to anyone whos entering Penn State in the fall. Its the easiest place, by far, to make friends.

Thanks Etuck. I was wondering, are the room rates for a regular double the same for all halls?

No, they are not. The housing site has the current rates. North is quite a bit more expensive than others. North is open to freshmen, but 3 of the 4 buildings are SLOs so if you are not interested in one, just a room in North, your chances of landing in North are dependent on dumb luck, who else wants in, and how soon you accept.

Accepting your offer puts you in line for a room. The sooner you accept, the closer to the front of the line you are. Decide what is more important — location or roommate or SLO — you may only choose one. All freshmen are required to live in campus housing.

Thanks greenbutton. Since I plan to major in Business, would getting into the BASH SLO automatically put me in the North Halls?

Regular double rates are the same…suites == regular double…
