I'm not sure when first year students move in but wanted to have a thread for updates. Here are a few questions:

How was move in?

Which of your classes are you most excited to start?

Who is the coolest person you've met so far?

Is it, so far, what you expected?

Move-in was very hot, sweaty, and hectic…lol but I’m settled down so it’s good.

I’m most excited for my Intro to Psychology class…anything with psychology excites me!

The coolest people I’ve met so far are my floormates…we get along really well and they’re all so funny and nice. We actually stayed up until 2:30 am last night sitting together in the hallway talking about random things.

It’s what I expected so far. I’m still in the process of orientation so I haven’t had time to really get involved yet. (Sitting in an assembly after assembly =[) The campus is gorgeous and feels homey (is that a word? whatever) and very close-knit as the school is relatively small. My academic advisor seems to be very willing to help and the whole of the Hopkins staff are so open and willing to help you with whatever you need. The services are great too as there is a free shuttle bus that takes you around Baltimore. The only downside I guess is that when you stray a little from the home campus the neighbor near it is pretty shady, but if you have a little common sense and not wander around there alone at night it should be no problem.

I also visited Charm City Cakes =O! which is like literally 5-10 minutes away from Hopkins. Also when I went into Subway near campus to buy a sandwich there was a framed autographed picture from Duff Goldman thanking that particular Subway for their sandwiches. Yes, you can tell that I’m a pretty big Ace of Cakes fan. =]

How was move in?
Hot! But worth it. I love my room. And it’s actually not hot at all anymore. The “hot” period went by very quickly, so if you’re discounting the AMRs because of the lack of AC, I wouldn’t. It’s very very very social here. I love my dorm. It’s also very centrally located / not a triple or suite style like building a / b.

Which of your classes are you most excited to start?
My Arabic class. The professor had made the class so interesting. My Contemporary International Politics class is interesting, but a lot of work. Arabic is more fun.

Who is the coolest person you’ve met so far?
I met someone who took a year off and started a political blog. He followed the campaign trail, meeting every candidate and gained Press level coverage of events all across the country. His blog was read across the country. Then he went to England to work for an MP / travel. After traveling Europe he taught English in South Africa. He’s on my floor and in my a cappella group.

Is it, so far, what you expected?
So much better. I like to go out and have a good time, and I was worried that everyone would be super reserved. While there are some people like that, almost everyone likes to go out. And, they won’t judge you if you stay in to work either, because everyone here is working hard. It’s so much fun. The people are great. COME TO HOPKINS

I know exactly who you are talking about … I actually admitted him two years ago. He is definitely one of the coolest members of the amazing Class of 2013.
