Hi, I am really excited to have been accepted to JHU yesterday. I will most likely attend.

Anyways, how is the weather in Maryland and in the Baltimore area? I ask this because I have lived in Southern California my whole life..

Does anyone know the acceptance rate this year for JHU?

Is it possible to get single dorms? I am very sociable and plan on joining a frat but the idea of sharing a room and bathroom with a complete stranger is pretty weird. Should I get over it?

Also, if we are friends with or know someone else from our school who is going to JHU in the fall, can we request to be roommates?

**Also, my predicted 2nd semester grades are 2 A's and 4 B's in all AP or IB classes. I should not have any trouble in terms of getting my admission rescinded right?

On the admitted student website thing it does talk about how you can request roommates. Go check it out on the website given in the acceptance email.

I live in MD, (not Baltimore though) and if I had to describe the weather, I would say that we get everything. In the winter it snows (usually), but not a lot (although everyone freaks out like it is a blizzard when it is only .5 inches) and in the summer it gets pretty hot...so we do get every season.

Congratulations imathriver! I hope you decide to attend Hopkins. Its hard to beat the weather in So Ca (we used to live in San Diego, now in NY). Baltimore is quite hot and humid in the summer, but fortunately you won't be in school then. Fall is reasonably mild and nice, you will get some snow in the winter, but it is not below freezing most of the time like more northern cities. Spring in Baltimore is beautiful - and Lacrosse season!

There are a few singles available to freshmen, mostly in suites in Wolman. My son has one this year - the suite consists of two singles and a double. The arrangement works well for him. When requesting a room, Wolman was his first choice, a single was second choice. Even if you are placed in a double in Wolman you only share a bathroom with 3 other guys and have a tiny kitchen to share as well.

Your predicted grades sound fine - relax and enjoy the rest of your senior year!

*Anyways, how is the weather in Maryland and in the Baltimore area? I ask this because I have lived in Southern California my whole life..
Like the previous person mentioned, the weather in Maryland varies with respect to the season. I look at it as the "typical" 4 seasons: cold in the winter, warm in the spring, hot in the summer, and cool in the fall. But being that you're from CA, I would suggest bringing enough winter clothes (jackets/scarves/boots, etc) for the winter months, I see wayyy too many CA people walking around in 20 degree weather in flip flops.

Does anyone know the acceptance rate this year for JHU?
I believe it was 24% overall (but keep in mind the difference in acceptance rates for early decision people vs. regular decision), you can check for yourself at collegeboard.com and type in Johns Hopkins U for the school.

Is it possible to get single dorms? I am very sociable and plan on joining a frat but the idea of sharing a room and bathroom with a complete stranger is pretty weird. Should I get over it?
Yes, it is possible, and you fill out a form of what you would PREFER (meaning you don't necessarily always get your first choice), and I think Hopkins does a good job at accommodating everyone. The bathroom sharing really isn't that bad, even if they're communal bathrooms. But it's understandable that you're hesitant about that idea (I was when I was an incoming freshman).

Also, if we are friends with or know someone else from our school who is going to JHU in the fall, can we request to be roommates?
On the form that you fill out regarding housing, they have a section where you could request who you want to room with.

You'll be okay, I think the policy (I could be wrong) is that you need to pass the classes that aren't related to your intended major, and at least B's on those that are. I remember reading that somewhere but I may be making things up.
