Okay so I am a freshmen in high school. My DREAM is to go to harvard!
what should I do ? My parents know some alumni but that will only take you so far
as of right now 1st semester i did not do to great, freshmen years been kind of rockey for me because of family things, but by the end of the year I should have a 3.67 in all my classes
my goal by senior year is to have a cumalitive average of a 4.0
I am in the most honors you can take at my high school
my high school does not offer AP
I am in the
academic decathlon
soccer
track
cheerleading
softball
yearbook committee
SADD
history fair winner
people to people ambassador
volunteer at ronald mcdonald house
art classes at RISD
I know 3 languages

what is my chance of getting in, if I keep this up by senior year, any recomendations from people who acutally go to harvard too? like about PSAT and all that ?

RELAX! if you start worrying about college now, you will be insane by the time senior fall rolls around. just keep doing well in school and keep up with the EC's you are doing now. and its way too early to start speculating about chances.

Honestly, enjoy high school and come back in 3 years.

Do what you enjoy, live your life, and try to have fun. Harvard wants people who are passionate about their interests, not simply "what Harvard wants"

I agree with the others, relax- it is way too early to be stressing about college, and it is not healthy to live in a certain way so that you get in to one college.

If you insist on thinking about college now, then I would say, stop fixating on Harvard. It would be good to get educated about lots of different colleges. Too many people come on here obsessed with Harvard or the Ivy league. It may be that you would actually be happier elsewhere. Go to a library or book store and look at "College that Change Lives," "Cool Colleges," or "Beyond the Ivy League." Ask your guidance counselor for information.

The kids who are so fixed on Harvard are then devastated when they do not get in. But, interestingly, I have read that there is an extremely high rate of depression among those Harvard-obsessed people who DO get in: getting in was their goal, and it was an empty one, because once in, they no longer had that as a motivator and feel empty (this was in an article in the newspaper). Something to think about.

Be yourself, work to learn, have fun, explore your interests, try to be useful to others- you will end up in the right place, for you!

So why is Harvard your dream?

The other advice has all been good but I want to point out that unless your school offers a 4.3 for an A+ you mathematically cannot turn a 3.67 UW GPA into a 4.0 UW GPA. I don't want you setting yourself up for something that is only possible at schools w/ 4.3s (our HS does not go above 4.0).

Either way though, relax. A 3.67 is a solid GPA. And do not live your life just trying to get into Harvard.
