(I might of posted this in the wrong section last time) First of all I'll like to apologize if this is the wrong section for my question. If so, then if a moderator can move it to where it belongs, I would really appreciate it. Anyways lets first start by saying that I'm a freshman in High School. One of my dream colleges is Harvard. Yes I know that there's no magic number of sports, classes and etc. that you should take. I also know that it takes a lot of work and effort to get in, which I'm willing to do and have been doing. For example standing out from ever other student that's applying. How can I make myself stand out? However I'll also like to know any advise that you would give to a freshman that wants to go to Harvard or a Ivy League College. Advice that would help me keep going and excel even more. If you could change or done something differently in your high school years, what would it be? If there was one thing you had to tell a freshman that wants to go to a good college, what would that be? Also if there's anything else that you would like to add, that would also be helpful. Again any responses are appreciated and thank you.

Learn how to spell freshman.

Find something that really interests you and that is pretty obscure and become a world-renowned expert in it. Start the next Facebook. Start the next Microsoft. Develop a best-selling video game. Write a New York Times best-selling novel. Row across an ocean. Swim across the English channel.

Do whatever interests you, get really, really, REALLY good at it, in addition to keeping stellar grades/scores.

Don’t do stuff for the sake of college. It’ll **** you over.

Have a really famous family.

Or, even better, don’t apply to an Ivy League school. What with their “gentleman’s degrees”, the ruthless competition to have the lowest admissions rate (Harvard’s predicted to be at around 6% soon), and the fact that there are schools that are just as good/better out there, open yourself up before foreclosing. C’mon, you’re a freshman. Nothing wrong with wanting to work hard and excel, but do it for your personal growth, not a college acceptance.

EDIT: If you’re asking upperclassmen for advice, why is your thread titled “Advice for a fellow freshmen [sic]”?

Hey look, a freshman that wants to/thinks he can get into Harvard. What an original thread. Face it, you’re likely not going to be better than 94% of the top 1% of HS students of the other people applying to Hahvahd, so don’t focus on getting into an Ivy, you’ll go crazy.
