Freshmen - Post Your Schedule

I can’t enroll in classes without seeing my advisor first, but I already have some idea of what my schedule will look like as freshman year is quite straightforward at Reed:

Humanities 110 (compulsory for all freshmen)
Biology (meets science req)
Latin

These three are all year-long courses.

Technically, we are strongly discouraged from taking more than three classes the first semester, but because I intend to study abroad, I will have to start fulfilling my major’s divisional reqs as soon as possible. So I hope I’ll be able to convince my advisor to let me take intro to politics the first semester, and a more advanced course in politics the second semester. (I’d rather take anthropology, but anthropology courses aren’t normally available to freshmen, if I recall correctly.)

In terms of time… I have some pretty awful classes. Two 5:30 to 8:30 classes, although I’m exempt from one.

Biology Seminar
Themes in Biology + Lab
Chem 201 + Lab (although I am exempt… probably not going to take Chem 202 if I don’t have to this sem)
Impact of Globalization
German 101

Currently a Biology major, but I really want to explore physics too.

I’m a voice performance major going for a BM, so my classes are going to be pretty specific in that area, haha.

-Italian 101 (4 times a week, alternating from 50 minute class to 75 minute class)
-Music Theory I (5 times a week, always 50 minutes)
-Class Piano I (2 times a week, 50 minutes)
-Precalculus (2 times a week, 75 minutes, then 3 hours in lab if you don’t pass your quizzes)
-University Choir (4 times a week, alternating 50 minutes and 75 minutes)
-Opera Workshop (3 times a week, 90 minutes)
-Private Lesson (Once a week, an hour)

Undecided engineering. Hopefully these classes, but I don’t get to register until August.
CHEM 111 (Intro to Chem for Engineers, 4 credits) MWF 10:30-11:20, Tu 10:00-11:15 <— so dumb, messes up the whole rest of my schedule, but it’s the only time it’s offered
MATH 223 (Calc III, 3 credits) TuTh 2:45-4:00
ENGR 131 (Intro to Programming for Engineers, 3 credits) TuTh 1:15-2:30 (Lecture) W 9:30-10:20 (Recitation)
POSC 379 (Intro to Middle Eastern Politics, 3 credits) MWF 3:00-3:50
First Year Common Curriculum Seminar, 3 credits, MW 12:30-1:45, some other time during the week as well (required).
First quarter: Weight lifting TuTh 8:30-9:20 AM
Second quarter: Cardio fitness TuTh 8:30-9:20 AM
I got all the classes I wanted to fit (again, hoping they don’t fill). I respect the warnings about 8 AM classes but I feel like this is different for 2 reasons: 1) They’re after possibly the two least eventful nights of the week and 2) They aren’t classes where I have to think, and I usually work out in the mornings anyway.

Am I the only one who doesn’t choose classes until a week before classes start? Four days before, actually…

^No, I choose them during orientation which is the week before classes start.

Fall Classes
MWF Classes
WRTG 1310 Into To College Writing

TR Classes
HIST 1310 World History I

I’m taking 15 hours. I’m not really sure what classes I’m taking during the Spring semester. I don’t chose those until toward the end of my Fall semester.

No, I actually don’t choose my classes until 4 days before classes start either. I just typed out my schedule as to what I already know I’m taking or think I’m taking. Some classes I am automatically into because I’m a music major, so you have to take lessons and ensembles.

You have to have some idea about what classes you should take before going to an orientation.

Fall
Calculus II
Physics I
Engineering Materials
Microeconomics

14 hours

Spring
Differential Equations
Statics
Engineering Graphics
Accounting I
(Possibly 1 more class)

12/15 hours

This is what I’m taking for fall (20 credits)

Calculus 2
Writing (required for freshman)
Computer Programming 1
Japanese 1
Evolution seminar

Anybody taking any crazy named seminars??? Like “Fossils Hurt Too” or something like that ?

^ Aren’t seminars usually 1 credit?

That seminar is 2 credits (meets twice a week) and is writing intensive
The math, writing, and programming are all 4, and Japanese is 6.

At my university freshman seminars can be 1, 2, or 3 credits. Most are 3 though

Major: Probably psychology. I know I’m definitely doing premed.

Fall: 17 credits
Astronomy 101
English Composition
Psychology 101
The University Community (a class for first quarter freshmen)

Both Winter and Spring: 15 credits
Calculus
Chemistry
Physics

I probably should be starting calc/chem/physics first quarter and getting those out of the way, but I figured that since it’ll be my first quarter at college, I’ll take fun classes and integrate into the college atmosphere before tacking on the hard classes.

Computer Science major.

Honors Calculus I - 4 hours
Introduction to Computer-Based Honors - 4 hours
Engineering for the Future - 1 hour
Engineering Concepts & Design - 1 hour

University Honors:267
English:101 Class
Mathematics:119 Lecture

=15 CH
earliest class i have is at 10 AM

overall, I like it. It has all the basic courses I need to get out of the way except math and science, which I’m taking Spring semester. Not having to wake up before 9 is also a plus.

Major: Psychology (if I transfer I might double major with International Relations)

Fall
General Psychology
Environmental Philosophy
Swimming
Evolutionary Biology
Peace Studies (freshman seminar)

No idea about Spring, though I know I have to take a freshman writing class and I’m hoping to get my math credit done.
