Freshmen Spring Registration Dates

Any idea when the freshmen registration dates begin? How does a student know if they are first or last to register? Son has his first registration open 11/6. First, last or center?

There are only two registration groups. Group 1 registers first day, then Group 2, then there’s a day when its open to both groups of first years.

Easiest to find out if he is first or second just by asking friends.

So the freshmen enrollment dates on his YES look like this:
11/6
11/8
11/11 to 11/15
12/9 to 1/13

A friend has her first enrollment 11/7. Does that mean he is on the first enrollment date? If so, we are surprised because he had the first enrollment date for Fall 13.

Yes, that means he has the first enrollment date, and will have the first enrollment date every Spring for the rest of his time at Vandy.

I believe the freshman first-semester registration dates use some different system that doesn’t apply to any other semester.

Thank you, Pancaked, for the quick info.

I had the same question. Son has the November 6 date. He also had the first date for Fall Semester.

Quick question. My daughter (freshman) has Nov. 6 as well. She says that some of the classes she was looking at are already filled up – and this was early last week. Is that possible, or is she not reading something correctly?

The classes my son has selected also have others that have already registered. I assumed it was a few students with special registration like athletes who need to take classes at certain times to support team practices.

I believe Juniors and Seniors registered last week and Sophomores today and tomorrow. Most classes should have students registered. Three of the classes my son was supposed to take are already full. Not sure how advanced standing from AP credits help if there aren’t enough room for freshman in the higher level classes.

Juniors and seniors registered beginning October 28, so there will be some classes that are already filled. If your student still wants a class that is full, he should join the wait list, if there are still slots avilable on the it. My D has had good luck over the years with getting into classes she wanted from the wait list.

ditto with lenny2. Waitlists are fluid and professors do their best to accommodate if there are special circumstances that should be explained–possibly by enlisting your academic advisor. (ie this is my last chance to take Class X because I will be abroad junior year, this seminar is totally aligned with my career goals/research topix X and Y).

1st year son is creating new options since one of his selections is just about filled. Since it is a 2nd year level class the explanation of upperclassmen already enrolling makes sense. He has one class that he really wants to take that is in Blair. All the rest of his classes are in Stevenson. Since he can’t get from Blair to Stevenson in 10 minutes (he tried yesterday), the Blair class is taking a 3 hour block of time and causing him to develop new options. In the end, he’ll get the classes he will need and that’s really what counts.

Go9ersjrh, wonderful to take a class in Blair. Will go down in his memory banks as one of the Best of Vanderbilt with the synergy that is there in Nashville in classical music as well in the plethora of professional musicians in other genres. Our son took a course in film scoring and soundtracks that he will remember forever. sigh. Blair is one of the best things about Vandy. Student performances alone will keep you busy to say nothing of their constant guest performances and lectures.

Good to keep in mind the distances between classes when working out a schedule. Some classes are on the Peabody campus, and those are tough to get to in 10 minutes from the main campus. My D has found that it’s just too stressful to try to work that out, so now she doesn’t register for back-to-back classes on the main campus and on Peabody.

S2 is a sophomore and prefers to take classes that are not back to back. He says that although the day is longer, he is less stressed with the hour between classes (MWF). He uses the time to study and/or eat at Rand.

Does any one know if there is someplace other than Rate my Professor to get reviews on professors? Apparently not having luck finding a lot of the professors there.

VoiceView allow students to see the aggregate results of course evaluations. All numerical, and compared to University averages-- student comments are not included. It’s not incredibly useful, but something to look at. Other students are the best source of information. Unfortunately not many students fill out reviews on RateMyProfessor.

Thanks Pancaked…

Another successful registration. Son got all the classes he wanted. Son did not get his first choice schedule, but he did get his second. He knew he could not get his first choice yesterday since the class time he wanted for math was already waitlisting. I remind myself that this is one of the positives of a private school. Our friend’s kids going to the public universities in California have trouble getting classes and if they can get the classes, the schedules are not very good.
