I want to apply to this program. Can anyone explain to me what exactly this program is, and any personal experiences with this program?

Apply to it most definitely.

How it works:
Freshman Fall - you get your UGS requirement out of the way with Research Methods (and they sign you up for it so you don’t have to struggle to get into a UGS like most others)
Freshman Spring - You get placed into a research stream after you visit them during open houses and list your top choices. If you don’t come in with BIO 205L (Bio lab) credit, then this is a great way to get it. Not all of the research streams offer Bio lab credit, so look out for that because you don’t want to take that course if you don’t have to the regular way. Your work in the lab (6 hours/week) this semester and work on the things assigned determine your grade, but the majority of students make A’s).
Summer - You can apply for a summer fellowship, and if you receive it you will be working in the lab during the summer and get a stipend.
Sophomore Fall - You can continue in the lab and get upper division lab credit for your work. The vast majority of CNS majors accept this credit, so you will knock out a lab you will have to do later on.
Sophomore Spring - You can continue in the lab as a mentor, if you are selected as one. You can mentor for pay or for credit again. Typically, the second credit won’t count towards your degree.

Wow that is most descriptive. Thanks a lot, it does seem really interesting and fun!

By the way, does it matter if my major is physics? I mean like do mostly Bio majors take it or something?

It does not matter, I am a physics major and there are plenty of research streams for people interested in physics like us. On the CNS website you can navigate to FRI and take a look at some of the available research streams you can be invved in as a freshman. I’m excited maybe we will work together next year!

Yeah that sounds cool. :D

Just got rejected from the CNS Honors program via email, but they gave me a guaranteed spot in FRI due to me having a strong application. I’m super relieved because I was stressing about having to fill out an application haha.
