Can current students give me some feedback on this?

My dd will be a freshman and I'd like to book her plane tickets for coming home for the December break. I know the last day of classes is Friday December 12, 2008.

I know that the last Airporter shuttle on Friday is at about 3pm.

Are students generally able to leave campus by that shuttle, or do they need to stick around for classes/athletics on Friday afternoon, and leave Saturday morning?

Either way is ok by us... I just wouldn't want her to wind up missing stuff by leaving early, or be the only one on campus by staying there Friday night...

it's easier to take the train to newark than the airporter, and it runs more often. The train is a bit of a pain with lots of luggage-- but winter break isn[t all that long so she should be able to manage with just one suitcase. I would want to leave friday later afternoon (flights at maybe 7-8?) since you don't know her schedule yet. Although it is unlikely that she will have a friday afternoon class. It gets quiet pretty fast over winter break, since it is a longer break and people that have to travel far want to spend as much time at home as possible.

As far as Friday classes go, it all depends on if shes a BSE or AB candidate. A lot of the classes required for freshman year BSE (physics, math) take place on Monday, Wednesday, Friday. A lot of more humanities-based classes, (politics, econ, philosophy) do not have lectures on Friday. An evening flight would be best, (have her take the train to Newark) though staying an extra night would not be the end of the world. Almost every international student stays on campus for breaks, so Princeton won't be empty.

the train is faster and runs more often, also it generally sticks closer to schedule as the traffic around princeton, especially on 1 getting to the turnpike, can be horrendous--it has taken me an hour and a half to get the 10 miles on 1 to the turnpike.

I normally take the Airporter, but I also normally have 3 pieces of luggage (backpack, rolling suitcase, racket bag) so the train would be a huge hassle. That said, the Airporter does take much longer. I just like the lower level of hassle/effort and think it's worth it.
