Friends are doubtful about chances, what do you think?

I've posted this once before, but I got two responses, figured I try again.

Gender: Male

Current Academic Stats:
UW GPA: 3.86
Weighted GPA: 4.7
Have taken: AP Chem, AP Stat, APUSH, AP Lang
Taking 12th: AP Physics C, AP Calc AB, AP Psych, AP Macro/Micro, AP Comp Sci A, Dual Enrollment Intro to Engineering (Counts for AP GPA), AP Lit

ACT 2nd: 33, ~=1470/ 2250
Taking SAT Subject tests Math 1, Math 2, and Physics in October

Extracurrics:
9-12th FIRST Robotics: (Vice President, President) Team has won a few awards
9-12th Tempus (Design futuristic space settlement and write 40 pg proposal for it) /Vice President of Engineering, President - Top 8 proposal in the world for two years
10-12th Model UN/ Vice President of Conferences, First place at state

Creator of Insane Robotics which is essentially my own robotics team that has built combat robots and autonomous robots.
- am designing a robot on CAD (which I am highly proficient with) and then building it as a test platform for research into new techs
Then all the good stuff: NHS, Spanish HS, AMCE, TEAMS (Engineering Test)

180 Total Volunteer Hours between volunteering at local science center, and working with a local brass band.

By the time I submit my apps I will have written a research paper on "Evolutionary Robotics using Dynamic Modeling and Simulation"
and possibly have written one or two articles for a respected robotics magazine.

Schools:
JHU ED/RD
Cornell RD
Northwestern RD
Maybe MIT for fun, not sure...

then just the regular publics: UF, UIUC, Purdue

Thanks for taking the time to read.

-Greg

You look like a great fit for a math/science-based school. It definitely appears as though you have a good chance of getting into JHU ED.

Definately try MIT. It's tough, but I think you are in at JHU ED.

Why are your friends doubtful? Your stats are more than solid.

JHU ED/RD - match
Cornell RD - high match
Northwestern RD - match/high match
MIT - crapshoot

The majority of my friends are older and in college. A lot of them are more intelligent book-wise, and since they went to publics (based on money and such) they get defensive and doubtful. It's silly really, but what are you going to do. Thanks for the chances by the way.

Sounds more like jealousy to me, hah.

I don't think you need to take both math subject tests. I would just take Math 2. Your EC's are very interesting. Did you look at CMU for robotics? Good luck.

Don't take Math 1. Just take Math 2. Do US History so that you can show you're good at humanities.
