JHU, Cornell, Carnegie, Amongst Other Chances Please

Gender: Male
Age: 16 (One year under class age)/ Going into senior year
Location: Florida
School: Average Public, We have had two students going to Duke from last year, and that's about it.
Prospective Major: Mechanical Engineering with a robotics specialization

Current Academic Stats:
UW GPA: 3.86
Weighted GPA: 4.7
Got Bs in Chem and AP Chem (they were not my best classes)
Have taken: AP Chem (10th)/ AP Stat, APUSH, AP Lang (11th)
Taking 12th: AP Physics C, AP Calc AB, AP Psych, AP Macro/Micro, AP Comp Sci A, Dual Enrollment Intro to Engineering (Counts for AP GPA), AP Lit

I took the SAT once but I'm not happy with it (1920), so I'm taking it again.
ACT 1st: 31
ACT 2nd: 33, ~=1470/ 2250
Taking SAT Subject tests Math 1, Math 2, and Physics in October, expect around 700s on all.

Extracurrics:
9-12th FIRST Robotics/ 2x Drivetrain Sub-team Leader, Vice President,
President) Team has won a few awards
9-12th Tempus (Design futuristic space settlement and write 40 pg proposal for it) /Vice President of Engineering, President - Top 8 proposal in the world for two years
10-12th Model UN/ Vice President of Conferences, Senior Consultant
- during 10th grade year, team was the best at the state conference (FHSMUN)
10-12th EdgeMUN (essentially we put on our own Model UN conference at our school)/ Director of Conference Services, Director-General, Senior Advisor
10th - MATE (Underwater Robotics) ROV Competition/ Electrical Sub-team Leader - Team placed 2nd/20 at Florida Regional
11th - TEAMS-Test of Engineering Aptitude Mathematics and Science
3rd in Varsity level
Creator of Insane Robotics which is essentially my own robotics team that has built combat robots and autonomous robots.
- am designing a robot on CAD (which I am highly proficient with) and then building it as a test platform for research into new techs
Then all the good stuff: NHS, Spanish HS, AMCE

180 Total Volunteer Hours between volunteering at local science center, and working with a local brass band.

By the time I submit my apps I will have written a research paper on "Evolutionary Robotics using Dynamic Modeling and Simulation"
and possibly have written one or two articles for a respected robotics magazine.

Schools:
JHU ED/RD
Carnegie RD
Cornell RD
Northwestern RD

then just the average public Us: UF, UIUC, Purdue

Thanks for taking the time to read.

-Greg

Good stuff Greg, hmm...

Course load-moderate(too much in snr year)
GPA-moderate~good
ACT- good
ECs- You show a true passion for Robotics. Absolutely dazzling.

Why JHU ED?

I'd go Carnegie/ Cornell ED, rest RD.
Cornell's a moderate reach for normal students, but your robotics ECs make you very appealing.

If you really like JHU and plan on applying ED then I say your in. But kindkid does have a point, you could have a shot at a school like cornell depending on how your testing scores go. But if JHU is your favorite then go for it

I believe the Carnegie acceptance rate for ED was about the same as RD, so I didn't see the point in that.

My problem with Cornell is that they require Subject Tests for Engineering, and with only getting the results from the SAT II back October 28th, 3 days before the app was due. I felt it was kind of close. Although now that I think about it, I could just have everything done before then. Then decide between JHU and Cornell on the day when I get my scores.

Oh and I was looking into JHU based upon their robotics concentration/ all the surgical robotics and haptics research they do, plus I knew it was less of a risk than Cornell/Carnegie. But both Carnegie and Cornell are also highly appealing in those departments.
