Friends cheating off of me. Should I care?

The title's pretty self explanatory. In two of my classes, I've had a friend cheat off of my test and I'm not really sure if I should care. I was actually unaware that they had copied me until after the test when they told me. I don't really consider these two people threats to me - one of them never does her homework and doesn't care and the other tries hard but gets B's/C's. I'll admit, I was a little peeved when I found out they had looked at my paper. Should I tell them to stop or just let it go? I don't think it'll become a regular occurrence.

By allowing them to cheat off you, you are also engaging in academic dishonesty. If they are caught, you may also get in trouble since you are facilitating academic dishonesty. I would anonymously report them, if I were you.

make sure to keep your work covered in a test situation.

Cheating off of you is stealing. In our generation, at least among my friends, we never would have asked a friend to cheat for us. The thing is this: if your friend cheats off of you, once you know, you are culpable and can get in a lot of trouble. Letting yourself be cheated OFF of is also considered cheating.

Protect yourself.

She can’t anonymously report because she will also be reporting herself. She has to report as herself, and ask for it to be kept anonymous. Otherwise it could get her in trouble too.

Bottomline, you know your schools policy for cheating and if you do the work, why should they get to leech off of you? You could tell your school (people would hate you), you could try and get them caught (would probably hate you less), or just ask the teacher to sit somewhere else during tests. Only you know what you have to do.

The same thing happened to me during my Latin Midterm - this boy sat behind me and basically copied most of my test without me knowing. It wasn’t until after we passed in our exams that he bothered telling me - I considered going to the teacher and saying something, but I let it go - as of right now, I just make an effort to cover all of my tests while I’m taking them. Remember in Elementary School when you used to have to basically hug your desk as a means of blocking your paper from wandering eyes - I know it looks stupid, but just do that.

Cover your test better or sit somewhere else?

I wouldn’t care if it was multiple-choice or something, but I’d be mad if some moron was word-for-word copying my extended responses because then how does the teacher know which one of us cheated?
Answer: she doesn’t and we both get in trouble.
