Hi everyone,
My October SAT is approaching, so I have to increase my score. Now it's 1600. (750+450+400)~Math, WR, CR. So, I just got to get 1800+ and I would like to get advices about improving my SAT score. Problems are in Essay and CR; I need one good strategy for passage based reading. I'm usually skimming whole passage and then when I got a feel of all thing, I'm starting to do questions one-by-one. It's myth that without reading whole passage student can make all questions correct. In WR, it's grammar; and it shows its keen parts in essay-writing. In multiple choice questions, I have made Big 4 check out: Tense, Pronoun, Parallel structures, Prepositions. And it covers about 70% of 18 ident.sent. errors. For improving sentences I'm watching films in english to distinguish sound of language.

The problem is that your not a native speaker and it is really going to show in the CR and Writing sections. I mean the test is difficult even for students whose first language is english. Just keep practicing CR and Writing and hope you can improve a little bit by October. Anyways good luck, you seem to be very motivated and are definitely working hard.

Thanks. I’m working on it. But I was looking for something revolutionary, something that would improve my scores rapidly. For the time being, I’m just making practice tests and reviewing wrong questions.

^ Yes, I was being sarcastic… My point is that there simply isn’t something “revolutionary, that would improve your scores rapidly” or at least we haven’t discovered it yet. All you can do after a certain point is practice and learn from your mistakes.

I suppose than you have good vocabulary. I know only 300 SAT words from Direct Hits; and that is all my “word power”.
What’s your opinion about Grammatix, Ethan’s method?

benhpark claimed that he prefered Ethan’s method. Anyway, what about Grammatix. And can student answer all questions correct without reading whole thing?

Suley, if you dedicated the time that youre using searching for " revolutionary" techniques studying, you wouldve probably improved much more already. Nevertheless, Ill reccomend you again Silverturtles or Noitapreps approach to CR and to finish both Direct Hits and your vocabulary will expand to around 500 new words (including synonyms).

Obviously your grammar isnt very good (i can notice lots of mistakes in your post, specially the lack of articles) so why not buy grammar books or search in the internet for information that focuses in your grammar instead of buying SAT books which expect you to have a decent grammar foundation since its used mostly be native english speakers.
